MetroCast Honors Local Winners of the 2016 Virginia Future Leaders Scholarships

06.17.16

Five students residing in MetroCast’s service area in Virginia have been named recipients of the 2016 Virginia Future Leaders Scholarship Awards.

The five local winners—from Tappahannock, King George, Hudgins, Reedville and Lancaster, Virginia—were among 81 students throughout the Commonwealth receiving $100,000 in scholarships.

The Virginia's Future Leaders Scholarship Program is a statewide education initiative of the Virginia Cable Telecommunications Association, of which MetroCast is a member, and the Donald A. Perry Foundation. The program recognizes and awards scholarships to soutstanding Virginia students attending an undergraduate 2 or 4 year program at a Virginia college or university.

Students seeking the scholarship were required to submit an application with school transcript, a detailed description of extracurricular activities and an essay describing why the student would be one of Virginia’s future leaders.

Now in its 16th year, the program has awarded $1.3 million in scholarships to 843 students attending Virginia colleges and universities.
