Update Your DNS Settings

MetroCast has upgraded its network to improve our customers' online experience. This may require a change to the Internet connection settings on your PC and possibly your router before you are able to take advantage of the network improvement.

The following instructions are intended as a guide should you want to make the change yourself. Your in-home system may vary somewhat, but many of the terms are similar across a variety of systems. If you would prefer that this process be completed by a MetroCast technician, please contact Technical Support. How to change your DNS on your home computer or laptop


STEP 1

-Find the network connection icon in the system tray at the bottom right of your screen.

-Right click on the network connection icon with your mouse to bring up the context menu.

-Select 'Status' from the menu.

-The Local Area Connection Status dialog should display.

-Select the 'Properties' button.

-The Local Area Connection Properties dialog should display.

-Select 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP'

-Depending on your Operating system, you may see a reference to Internet Protocol version 4 and version 6. If this is the case, please select Internet Protocol version 4.

-The Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog should display.

-If a specific DNS server address (i.e., 203.97.78.43) is identified, please select the option, "Obtain DNS server address automatically" (see red arrow below).

-Click "OK" and "Close", then reboot your computer.

You're finished. You've now switched your DNS to MetroCast.

How to change DNS in your Router

In this next example, we will change the DNS in your router. In the following screenshots, we are using a Netgear N150 Wireless router. Your router may differ. If that is the case, visit the manufacturer's web site or contact MetroCast Technical Support.

STEP 1

-Enter your router's IP address in a browser.

-At the login screen enter your use name and password.

STEP 2

-Click on Basic Settings. Under Domain Name server (DNS), make sure "get automatically from ISP" is checked off.

-Then, scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Apply" or "Save".

You're finished! You've now switched your DNS to MetroCast.
